Walter Earl Bishop

February 12, 1946 ~ October 28, 2017 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Walter Earl Bishop, 71, passed away at his residence on October 28, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 12, 1946 in Calera, Alabama to Roy and Roxie Bishop.
Walter was a kind and loving man. His children and grandchildren were a large part of his life and, he spoke of them all the time. His great-grandson, Jayden lovingly called him, “Pawpaw Beship”. Walter is loved, not only by his family, but others as well. He was always smiling, laughing and joking with people. He never met a stranger. Although he was very strong and determined with a bit of a stubborn streak for having things “his way or no way”, he always put others first.
Walter retired after 30 years from Stanley Jones but continued working on his other passion, his lawn mower repair business, Walt’s Mower Repair. He was fondly known as the “Lawn Mower Man” and “Unk”.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed deep sea fishing and watching NASCAR. His favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. He also enjoyed going to the races at Highland Rim Speedway where one of his proudest moments was when he saw the car he sponsored with his business name on it. He was also a big Alabama fan.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Sue Harris, Teresa Lackey (Mike), and Johnny Nixon; all of Talladega Alabama, Tonya Smiley (Steven) of Toney, Alabama.
He is also survived by his siblings; Carlton Bishop (Shirley) of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Kathy Green (Sherwood) of Thomasville, Alabama and Pat Spurling of Talladega, Alabama.
He has 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
Walter will be especially missed by his sidekick and buddy Ronnie who helped him at the shop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Roxie Bishop, and sisters, Alice Faye Bishop and Christine Forgey.
Services were entrusted to Church & Chapel Funeral Service, LLC, Portland
