Richard Green Buttrey, 87, of Hendersonville, TN, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 5, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was an Army Veteran and worked in the printing industry before and after his service, He worked for Benson Printing and Rich printing during his 20 years in the industry. He would later move into teaching printing & photography at Tennessee Preparatory School for the last fifteen years of his working career.
Richard was a lifelong fan of the University of TN sports and an avid golfer and fisherman. He was a devoted husband, father & grandfather who loved spending time with his family. From camping trips, visits to amusement parks and attending musical theater he was always enthusiastic about having family fun.
Richard testified many times about his salvation, proclaiming it as the greatest gift he ever received. He had gone to many churches as a young man but had not learned about God's plan of salvation until he came to New Bethel Baptist Church. During a revival, Brother Russell asked if he was lost and he said, he was. He went to mourner's bench and was saved that day.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar & Elizabeth Buttrey, his son, Richard Lynn Buttrey, brothers, James, Troy, Leo and Burnest Buttrey, his sisters, Ola Mae Collier and Estalene Coffee.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 65 years, Peggy Buttrey, daughter Lisa Mills (Jim), grandson Seth Clarke and granddaughter Natalie Clarke-Robinson (Justin).
