Joyce Yvonne Hammonds

Joyce Yvonne Hammonds, 78, entered into eternal rest on Sunday July 12, 2020, at Westmoreland Nursing Center, Westmoreland, TN.

She was predeceased by her parents William Paul Hunter and Mary Evelyn Porter Hunter and her brother, Paul Stanley Hunter. Joyce was born, raised, and educated in Portland.

She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, Portland, TN

Joyce was a homemaker much of her life, but in her early years she attended cosmetology school with her mother, Mary Evelyn. After finishing cosmetology school Joyce and her mother opened Yvonne’s Beauty Salon where they worked together until Mary Evelyn passed. After retiring as a beautician, Joyce spent the remainder of her career working in Customer Service in the town of Portland, TN.

Her hobbies included cooking, shopping, and spending time with her friends. Joyce was known by many for her home cooked meals and her specialty dessert by far was her homemade chocolate pie.

Joyce also loved animals, especially dogs. She loved her last companion, “Sugar” for over 13 years.

Joyce’s legacy is reflected in the lives of her children and grandchildren. All of them are community spirited people who value family, education, good citizenship, and service to others.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jeremy Quinn Hammonds and his wife, Tammy and Angela “Angie” Denise Gregory and her husband Chris, all of Portland, her Grandsons, Jeremy Wayne Hammonds and his wife, Krista, Rusty Allen Hammonds and Andrew Michael Hammonds, her Granddaughters, Chelsey Yvonne Gregory, Amber Pearson and Macy Evelyn Sprinkle and her husband, Jared, her Great-grandsons, Jeremy Daltyn Hammonds and Nicholas Allan Hammonds along with many friends.

The family would like to offer a special note of gratitude to the nurses, staff, and administration of the Westmoreland Nursing Center for all the kindness and good care Joyce received there.
